Filigree Craft and the CHJ Jewellery Collaboration

Filigree inlay is a Chinese intangible cultural heritage craft and one of the Eight Imperial Handicrafts of Beijing. Its fine metalwork provides the cultural foundation for a long-term collaboration with CHJ Jewellery.

The project connects the protection of traditional technique with workshop development, museum culture and contemporary design. These activities bring craft knowledge into the brand experience.

The company introduction describes a collaboration with designer Oki Sato of nendo to reinterpret filigree for a contemporary market. The resulting Filigree Candy project connected design, visual storytelling and product development.

Craft archives, practitioner development and design residencies form part of the wider approach to supporting transmission and creative exploration.

This case illustrates how cultural research and industry collaboration can work together around a traditional technique.
