Connecting the preservation of filigree craftsmanship with workshops, museum culture and contemporary design.

Project overview

Culture as the starting point.

Filigree inlay is one of the traditional crafts known as the Eight Great Arts of Beijing. This collaboration with CHJ Jewellery connects the continued practice of the craft with brand development and new design possibilities.

The approach

The work brings together craft workshops, museum development and designer residencies. By inviting designers to work with traditional techniques, the partnership creates new connections between skilled handwork and contemporary jewellery.

The connection

The Filigree Candy collaboration with nendo designer Oki Sato is one example of this approach: translating a complex traditional technique into a contemporary design that can reach new audiences.
